In Memoriam

Dave McCarty died on April 19, 2024 of a reported cardiac event at the age of 54. He was an 11-season Major League Baseball veteran who won a World Series with the 2004 Red Sox, helping the team break its 86-year World Series drought.

Born in Houston, Dave McCarty was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 1991 and made his major league debut two years later. He spent time with seven different teams over the course of his 11-season career. He notched 36 career home runs and 362 hits in 1,493 career at-bats.

McCarty’s longest stint was also his most notable: Playing 3 seasons with the Red Sox, he played first base and outfield and even pitched on several occasions. He will forever be a part of the curse-breaking 2004 World Series championship team. He retired after the 2005 season.  After retirement, McCarty spent several years as an analyst on Red Sox Broadcasts with NESN.

He had most recently attended Opening Day Ceremonies honoring the 2004 World Championship Team. The BoSox Club sends our love to his wife, Monica, and their children, Reid and Maxine.
